What is this Higher Power? Do we Need One?

For me, my faith, though not complex in religious terms, is as real to me as the nose on my face. Everyday, I walk in confidence in my "Source."  "Source" is a term for what spiritual leaders now often call the life-changing personal experience and relationship with a loving higher power. But, not everyone has yet to embrace or experience life-changing Eternal Love (and a glimpse of "the Eternal Now"). Where does everyone else land in this existence?

For many, it can feel silly or ignorant to embrace a lifestyle outside of the 5 senses. But, scientists don't necessarily pass judgement on that which they can't experience with the 5 senses. They may stand as silent observers and explore what others experience (without judgement). People often seek a higher power when their lives become unmanageable. I would suggest not waiting to explore a spiritual path until life is chaotic or you have hit "rock bottom." Why not start today?

Newcomers can begin their spiritual program or journey with an easy-to-embrace concept called "the higher power." You don't need to have a religious context to have something meaningful in your life that guides you to love, serenity, hope, joy, and real coping skills (although many people around the world find an organized church meaningful and very helpful in their spiritual walk). Others embrace a higher power and serenity by working through a spiritual 12-Step program like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA); AL-ANON; Ala-Teen; Co-DA; and other similar helpful spiritual programs.

Having a higher power is as simple as learning to let go, trust, learn, grow, and become one with a power greater than self. Start there. Water it regularly with healthy, balanced mentorship and devoted time. Watch it grow. You will find and attract and be guided to special people and events to encourage you on your journey. Although faith is a private matter, those who have love in their hearts from their spiritual journey are often inspired to share a message of faith, hope, love, and peace.
